About Denise

I'm based in the UK, speak native English, and have a BA degree with a major in English language and communication. I have 2.5 years of proofreading and copy-editing experience, with a total of over five years' experience in the editing field. Some of the documents I've worked on include reports, emails, website content, and blog posts in British, American, and Australian English. My experience also includes working in customer and editor support.Whether polishing written content for clarity or proofreading for errors, I always aim to bring a meticulous approach to my work.I also speak some (very rusty) French, but as life usually succeeds in causing great distraction, my attempts to improve are currently sporadic.Si vous m'envoyez un email en français, j'essaierai de répondre dans la même langue, mais je ne peux pas promettre que ce sera correct. Je ne la parle pas couramment.

Contact

Do you have questions or want me to edit your work? Check the FAQs first. If you don't see your question or want to get started, send a message. I aim to respond within 24 hours, Mon-Fri, if you send it before 4:30pm (UK time).

FAQs

Do you offer rush jobs?
No, as I prefer enough time to do a thorough job. If everything is always urgent for you, I won't be the right person to help.
Can you check the copy directly on the website?
Yes. I can use Markup.io to leave comments. It's a bit like proofreading a PDF. This means I can't make direct changes unless I work in your content management system.
What's the turnaround?
It depends on my schedule. For example, I aim to keep it under three days for 1K words.
How much do you charge?
Proofreading: £0.016 / $0.02 per word.
Copy editing: £0.025 / $0.03 per word.
What's the membership and its cost?
It's exclusively for businesses that want regular proofreading, copy editing, and unlimited revisions for 5K to 10K words per month for one convenient monthly fee. The exact monthly cost depends on the total word count, which will be £112.5/$135–£225/$270. This represents a 10% discount.
Should I choose proofreading or copy editing?
Choose proofreading if you're certain that the writing is of a high standard but want to ensure that no small errors remain (typos, spelling, punctuation, inconsistency).
Choose copy editing if the writing is OK, but it still needs improvement beyond typos, spelling, punctuation, etc. Note that although some sections can be restructured if needed, a complete overhaul is beyond the remit of copy editing. What file format do you accept?
My preferred file format is Microsoft Word, but if you want me to mark up a PDF, I can do that too but won't be able to make direct edits. I can only use markup and leave comments
Can you reduce/increase the word count?
I can't guarantee a specific word count as I only focus on improving the quality of your writing, which may or may not lead to an organic increase or reduction.
How many rounds of edits do you include?
Proofreading: One round
Copy editing: one round + one clean up
Can you edit AI-generated content?
If the service you want is what I've outlined in the Services section, then yes.
I have a style sheet. Can you follow it?
Yes.
